First of all I never like to be jarred awake. I think it affects my entire day in a negative way and it definitely scares my dreams away. I have a quiet peaceful music alarm, but I usually wake up before it’s needed. That being said, I do remember the dreams if I am awoken in a quiet manner; especially in the middle of a dream.
I am on a Flexi plan as far as journaling.
Monday through Friday because I have less time, I choose more sleep and less journalling. I write less often and jot down less details; though I may meditate on my dreams through the day.
But then On Saturdays, Sundays or vacations I find (like Marion) that laying in bed for a while helps me to remember what is usually an abundant stream of my dreams. The less light and more quiet the better. I like to wear earplugs. On these mornings I usually have so many dreams that I first write a brief outline of each dream and then fill in the details in a separate paragraphs afterwards. Sometimes after that I also enjoy dozing in and out and having many/mini “one liner” dreams. For example I hear a few words or a phrase. “Stir fry your address and stand before God where you are”(is one of my favorites). Sometimes it’s just a visual flash like for example: the image of a dead goldfish.
I have an agreement with myself that if it’s really important it will be really loud on a weekday OR I will dream about it once again on the weekend, perhaps in a more transformed/ progressed state of what it was during the weekdays; but I’ll get it then. I trust my sub conscience knows my limitations( or belief of my limitations)I guess and that it is willing to work with them and support my need for a good long sleep on work days. I laugh writing this because it seems so practical and I know dreams don’t come from a practical place necessarily; but there it is from me.
If I have a night mare any day of the week, I pay attention and write it down; Believing my subconscious really wants my attention.

I also Appreciate that you asked this question and then Jane Teresa answered it. I can get so overwhelmed with so many dreams and wanting to do it “right” that I don’t do anything.
I recently had the experience of a strong and quickly clear dream on a Saturday morning (when I had time). Right away I created a dream alchemy (A series of drawings right into my dream journal) and then did visualizations (not as often as I probably “should”) of what those pictures depicted. My dreams for a week after directly built every night on the theme of the first one and they got better and better. It was so exciting and my insight on the issue kept growing. I also drew a picture of that dream outside of my journal later in the week, remembering to feel the same strong feelings from my dream. Now weeks later I just look at it to remind myself.
I find my worry of getting the dream alchemy “wrong” inhibits me from doing it unless I am sure. I wonder can I harm myself if I get it wrong? or will I merely shift my problem into a new and maybe more twisted one?

Alexandra, I have a large variety of places/scenes that I dream of over and over as well. Some of them I understand and some of them I don’t. I am often relieved or excited when there is a positive transformation that has occurred…Most recently, after some dreamAlchemy. It tells me it worked.
I love the idea of having a code and noting dream places in my dream journals, so I can follow the changes or progress of a place and possibly correlate it with my waking life.
Just a thought…Sometimes in my life I have found myself in my waking life in places similar to places in my dream. For example I have climbed up a certain snowy peak because it Reminded me of one I had been dreaming of or I have taken the opportunity to go up and see the view out of a window in a house because it seemed it would look like the view I had in a dream. By going through these activities The same feelings have been evoked as those I felt in the dream but then with an added feeling of magic to it and empowerment. Like I have defied reality. I didn’t know about dream alchemy at the time, but it probably had a little bit of that. I would not do this with a dream cast or it would get me in trouble, but it has been interesting with dream places.

It’s fun to read all the different interpretations of this dream. It is such a clear demonstration on how personally specific the images in a dream are to each dreamer. Yet how the dreams stimulate so much for each reader/listener.

A few things about your dream that stand out to me are the contrast between a mouse (quiet as a mouse) and the cockerel (Which is so noisy you’re worried about your neighbors complaining). Also the description of your cockerel who is “ill but carries on like nothings wrong”, reminds me of the cockerel in the dream who is oblivious to his situation in the hot water.

Though the simple sentence and 3 words seem essential; my favorite is the interpretation of symbols and the way their meanings can continue to unfold like a flower for days, with layers of meaning.  I am often awestruck by the poetic ingenuity of the unconscious.  It helps me believe in God.

This was painted after a very positive enjoyable dream, that I wanted to share with a dream group I was in at the time.

In the same way I feel nurtured and heart-warmed by pictures of my loved ones (family and friends) on the walls; I also feel nurtured by the pictures from my positive dreams on my walls.

      Hello fellow dreamers,

I am  Kim from the Pacific Northwest in the USA.  I have contemplated and valued my dreams every since I can remember.  The more I have explored them with a therapist, in a dream group and now through the Jane Teresa’s podcasts and dream academy; the more I have appreciated them.  It’s like a deep tissue massage, but for the soul instead of the body.  It touches me deep inside.  I find the discovery of the formerly unconscious and thus hidden treasures of my self to be both exciting and  expansive.  It can also be overwhelming, depending on the dreams.  But that’s where the dream alchemy is so helpful.

I have found painting my dreams to be very insightful and enjoyable as well.

      Caroline,

Thanks for asking!  There are many ways to have a dream group.  The dream group I was in, involved meeting every 2 weeks, for 2 or 3 hours, with 5 others in a home.  There we would drink tea and bring a dream to share.  After hearing a dream we could ask clarifying questions or start with the sentence “If this were my dream….” and share any thoughts, feelings, interpretations that came up while hearing the dreamed . We formed the group after taking a dream workshop together, and it lasted a few years.

If I was to do it again I would like to do it with others who like the  Jane Teresa dream approach as much as I do.  I miss having the group still or a therapist, because sometimes I want my dream and the excitement I feel around it to be witnessed by another person.   Also I usually find it easier to interpret someone else’s dreams.
