Hi Marion, Thank you for buying The Shape of Things to Come. I’ll leave your dreams for students to respond to, but I thought I’d pop in here to give the link to the promised blog on Dream Incubation. Dream incubation blog
While this is a space for students – not for me – I do have to jump in here with a first comment! Last week someone asked me if I had a blog about Dream Incubation. “Yes,” I said, quite confident that surely I would have written about this as a blog. (I knew I had covered the topic in books.) It turned out that I hadn’t, so I promised that Dream Incubation would be the subject of my next blog, for JaneTeresa.com, which will go up two weeks today.
Meanwhile, I’ve been re-reading my 1998 book, The Shape of Things to Come (Random House), which is about precognition in dreams, synchronicity, and much more. I have been invited to be part of a presentation on ‘Prediction, time, and dreams’ so I thought I’d reconnect with the examples I gave in the book. While reading, I came across a passage about a Dream Incubation experiment I asked people to do back in my dream research days. I thought the passage would make an excellent inclusion in the blog. One of the things that came up was that many of the people who did the experiment had a similar experience to yours: their dreams reflected either their question or their conflicts about performing well/getting the task done etc.
Yesterday my husband, Michael, was wearing his ’42’ teeshirt, a design based on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. (For anyone who is confused at this point, the book suggests the answer to the meaning of the universe is 42.)
Lastly, I haven’t quite finished reading The Shape of Things to Come. My next chapter, this morning, is the one about a seacrh for meaning.
As to your fabulous dream, I’m going to leave that to the forum community to engage with you!
Hi Beth, I’m adding some words here so that I can click that ‘notify me of follow-up replies by email’ checkbox. Looking forward to seeing other students’ replies and experiences. I’m also acknowledging that since starting this topic you have shared and celebrated the ongoing Glimmers of Gold that have occurred for you under the post ‘Glimmers of Gold’. Excellent work!
Popping in here to add a note: Beth has started a new thread on Glimmers of Gold which you’ll love. Encouraging those of you who receive updates to threads by email to check into the forum from time to time to see if there are any new topics started. (The system doesn’t provide for email alerts for new topics started.)
Such a beautiful affirmation of both dream alchemy and the Glimmer of Gold practices. Thank you for sharing, and Big Congratulations on all the shifts. Your sharing is a lovely encouragement and a post is never too long 🙂
I’ve jumped back to this thread of 9 months ago to let you all know that there are new students saying hi and reaching out to connect in a post titled ‘Welcome’ at the top of the forum posts. (I’ve made it a sticky post so it will stay at the top of the forum.) Maybe you’d like to go in and reintroduce yourselves and connect. There are plenty of students actively doing the courses, but the forum has not been wholly embraced in the way I had imagined! Maybe there’s significance in the 9 months 🙂 Nine months gestation? Jane Teresa
Hi Lisa Jaye, Enjoy this lovely space, and I look forward to seeing more students engaging and assisting each other with interpretation here in the forum. Go!
Thank you Beth, I love the way you have expressed recent reflections of stubborn issues as flowers or fruits. I think you’re going to enjoy the poetry of conducting dream alchemy. Jane Teresa
Hi Beth, I’m glad that you are applying the 1-2 days approach and noting how different it is, even though it is not your usual approach. You asked why it is the case that our dreams are directly related to the 1-2 days beforehand. It is something I noticed when I did my early research, when I was comparing people’s dreams with their notes about their waking life experiences, and I have continuously observed this working with clients ever since. Our dreams are processing the last 1-2 days (in a less busy world I suspect it would be one day, but with so much to process my observation is there can be a bit of a backlog).
Here’s where people can get confused: dreams firstly relate to the 1-2 days beforehand then they refer back into the past to compare those recent experiences with past similar experiences – conscious and unconscious. This is part of the updating process. That done, some dreams will then project forward to possible future scenarios where the dreaming mind tests out – or practises – the newly updated mindset (or the stubbornly-resistant same-same mindset). This is why you can identify elements from the past (unresolved issues, origin of beliefs etc) and notice possible avenues you might try into the future.
I hope this helps. The key to interpretation strongly lies in first finding the connection with the last 1-2 days. Once you have that you’ll find it easier to identify and relate to the rest of the dream, including the resonating past and potential future references.
Welcome Beth, Thank you for introducing yourself. So wonderful that you’ve chosen to work with your clients on their dreams one day. Dream analysis and dream alchemy are indeed an art and a science, a calculated blend of the intuitive and the analytical that deliver insight beyond the sum of the parts. Enjoy the magic! Jane Teresa
