What you need to know.

Dreams don’t tell you what to do. They shine a light on what you need to know.

Uncharacteristically, I’m keeping today’s blog short, sharp, and, I hope, sweet. I enjoy writing as much as I enjoy dreaming and exploring dreams – my own and other people’s – but today I want to get across a key message: dreams don’t tell you what to do; they shine a light on what you need to know.

Imagine a simple dream: you’re climbing a ladder that stretches out in front of you, no end in sight. If you believe that dreams tell you what to do, you might think your dream is telling you to climb that career ladder or keep moving on up in pursuit of a higher goal or a higher perspective.

If you have an urge in the dream to climb back down that ladder, you might think your dream is telling you to back down, or get grounded, or try another route.

Dreams shine light on your conscious and unconscious mindset.

A dream of climbing an endless ladder might shine a light on an unconscious belief that you will never reach your goal, or that you must keep on going, come what may, or that you should follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before, or that life is about plodding endlessly. It might reveal a belief that it’s better to back off when things feel tough, or a belief that it’s better to back down now than to risk success or failure.

The above suggestions aren’t a pick-and-choose list of interpretations, and there are many more possibilities for what it might reveal. The key to accurate interpretation is in the other details of your dream and knowing the right questions to ask yourself as you explore these.

So where do you begin?

So where do you begin when you want to interpret a dream to discover what you need to know about your unique unconscious mindset and how it is affecting your life choices?

If you follow the step-by-step approach in my first course, How to interpret your dreams step-by-step, you discover how to take all the elements of a dream into account, how to ask the right questions, and how to arrange your answers on your Dream Interpretation Chart to shine a light on what you need to know.

When you understand yourself more deeply, you understand why you experience life in the way that you do, and that opens the way for you to make good choices.
